What is investing?

Investing quite simply means putting your money into something that will increase in value over time and will therefore make you a profit. 

You are likely familiar with one type of investment: purchasing a home. People who invest in real-estate are expecting the value of the home to increase over time, with the goal that when they sell the house down the road, it will be worth more than what they had originally paid.

The same thing goes for investing in the stock market. When you invest in the stock market, you’re putting money into companies that are expected to grow over time, and you get to profit from that growth.
